my little artist...

Last month Little Bit went to an arty party for her bestie's birthday.  This was such a fun experience!  I wanted to be a kid again and join in on the fun!

Here is Little Bit with the birthday girl.  Behind them is a fun chalk wall that the kids could draw on throughout the party.

Each child at the party got to paint a frame {which was later filled with a group picture} and a canvas.  I wasn't sure what Little Bit would fill the canvas up with but I just let her have at it.  I was SO impressed with her creativity.  They started out with black, white, yellow, red and blue paint.  She loved mixing colors to make new ones for her artwork.

Here is her finished product!

She loved the process so much that we stopped on the way home to get a couple canvases so she could create more masterpieces!

She got to work right away on a butterfly and flower.  This was such a fun experience for her.  I enjoyed watching her excitement throughout the process!

They turned out BEAUTIFULLY!...

So we made an art collage on some blank wall space in her room.  LOVE!!!

{budget} butterfly birthday...

Little Bit's requests for her birthday "party" were for it to be a butterfly theme and to get together and play with some friends.  Well, at the time we had a dirt yard and nothing fun to play with in our yard.  Plus it is so hard to schedule things on the weekends and evenings with all the sports and family things going on.  So we planned an after school get together at the park!

We love having park parties.  All I did was provide a simple snack and party favor and we just let the kids play.

I wanted to have an easy snack for the kiddos and tried to think of something butterflyish.  I found these pretzels at Aldi and they were butterfly shaped enough {if you use your imagination!} so we went with those.  {Plus they were safe for our friends with allergies.}

I also picked up a box of Aldi version capri suns.

And you can't have a good birthday party without sending your guests home with some favors, right?!  So this is what I came up with...
I used some Market Pantry fruit snacks from Target, squeezed them together in the center and wrapped pipe cleaners around them to make butterflies!

We also found these butterfly blowers at the Dollar Tree!  The kids had a blast with them!  Also from the Dollar Tree I got some butterfly birthday napkins to serve the snack on.

So for under $10 we were able to have a butterflyrific birthday!!!

{princess} party

Today my baby girl is 4!!! I can't believe it has been 4 years already. Time sure does go by too fast! Little Bit is such a sweetie and I am extremely blessed to be her mommy! Over Labor Day we had her family birthday party. She wanted a princess theme...
I thought it would be fun for her if she dressed up like a princess for the party, so here she is all decked out in her Snow White dress!

I tried to be thrifty on decor and make what I could. I saw this castle online and thought, maybe I could make one....and this is what I came up with. I started with a 12x12 piece of cardstock for the main tower and went from there.

She really wanted me to use her little princesses in the decor so I set up the castle on the table and put the princesses all around it. We hung some balloons and tissue poms from the chandelier.

I really wanted to make her a cake but we were traveling with it and I had been sick that week...so we just went with a store bought one. I added a few of her little princesses to the top and she was pleased!

Here's one more pic of my little princess with her 2 aunties! Happy birthday Little Bit!!!

cupcake toppers...

In order to dress up my homemade cupcakes for Little Bits party, she helped me make some cupcake toppers!
I found this Toy Story confetti at a local party store. It contained paper cutouts of several of the characters. We just taped the characters to the tops of toothpicks!

TADA....I love how these turned out! {I used some of the leftover confetti to embellish party invites!}

toy story birthday!!!

Little Bit has been talking about having a Toy Story birthday party for several months! So I had to deliver, right?! ;) Our families live about 3 hours south of us....so we stopped there on our way to Disney and had Little Bit's family party with the grandparents.
It's not the easiest planning a birthday party when you have to travel but I was super pleased with the results...
I made the cupcakes beforehand and then iced them when we got to my mom's. It was my first time using a cake decorating tip to try and make the cupcakes look a little more fancy! I think they turned out great...{if i do say so myself}! I used star sprinkles from Michaels and some character picks to finish them off. The cupcakes were displayed on a tiered plate stand, with some of Little Bits miniature Toy Story characters added in for another special touch.

I also used other toys to decorate the table.....scrabble letters to spell HAPPY BDAY, barrel of monkeys hanging from the plate stand, and a birthday Mrs. Potato Head! {I found the Buzz Lightyear candle at Michaels, also used Toy Story cupcake liners found there too!}

Little Bit just loved the set up....here she is admiring the decor...anxious to gobble up one of those cupcakes!
