Spelling...We worked on spelling UP this week. I wrote the word and drew a picture on our dry erase board. Each day I had Little Bit spell and sound out the word.
...Little Bit has learned to spell her name! She was watching an episode of Blue's Clues where they were focusing on the alphabet and spelling things. She has known most of the letters in her name for a while but I was surprised when she got them all in the right order. Now she wants to type on the computer. So I open a blank Word document and she types her name, MOM and DAD. The other day she asked how to spell OCTOPUS and has been working on it too....guess she doesn't want to start small! ;)

Umbrella...dot to dot umbrella. This is a great exercise for getting letters in the correct order and drawing lines!
...U is for umbrella letter tracing worksheet.
...Little Critter with an umbrella paper doll. Little Bit colored the paper doll pieces and I cut them out. Then she had fun pretending it was raining and getting Little Critter all dressed. She liked this one so much I printed a couple more of the outfits for her to play with!

Under...I set up a little obstacle course for Little Bit to work through. I placed felt squares on the floor so she would have a path to follow. She had to go UNDER the chair, around the stool and over the beanbag.
...Little Bit loves to play Hide & Seek. One of her favorite places to hide is {under} the table!

Activity shelf...sorting shells by big and little; pom pom transfer w/tweezers into a strawberry ice cube tray, color shade matching; pom pom transfer to suction mat; clock puzzle; tower building with green and yellow foam cubes;green sensory box {filled with green things....shape buttons, jewels, pom poms, bottle caps, foam animals, green dish}; rice bin with rake and race car; shape matching using our shaped buttons and dollar store banners that I cut apart.

...Little Bit also loves to get in some computer time when we go the library. They have computers set up in the children's area with games, stories, etc. She loves working on Jump Start PreK!

krazy couponing and a target surprise!

So I was watching the Nate Berkus Show yesterday and it was on couponing! They had the Krazy Coupon Ladies on to show a family of 7 how to drastically reduce their grocery bill. I decided to check out their site and think it is pretty great! I really like their feature Let's Shop. Each Sunday they will post their "strategy" for the week, basically the best deals they don't want to miss. Three of the 5 places they listed were Walgreens, CVS and Target which are my top 3 places to check deals each week too! Plus they update their blog throughout the week with new deals and freebies.

Little Bit and I went to Target today ready to snag some coupon deals. Before shopping we got something to eat at the Pizza Hut Express inside our Target store. I like to carry my fountain soda around with me while shopping but I am always afraid it will get knocked over in the cart. Well today I discovered that Target has a cart cup holder that you just clip on to your shopping cart!
When we were waiting in line to order our food, I saw a lady 2 or 3 in front of us ask for one and clip it on her cart....so I followed her lead. And it was FREE....so I am saving mine for the next Target trip!

i {heart} zippered pouches!

I just love zippered pouches! You can never have too many, right?! They are great for containerizing....especially all the stuff in my purse. I have one for my necessities {lip gloss, lotion, sanitizer, bandaids, tylenol, etc...}, several for snacks, one for library stuff {library card, change, pen}, and now one for toys...

...See that little pony peaking out of there?!

I have seen so many cute handmade ones online that I finally decided to try one myself. I found two {here and here} fairly easy tutorials that I really liked. So I took parts from each and came up with something that worked for me.

This was my first time working with a zipper! I am so not a great seamstress by any means. It is far from perfect but it is my creation and I love it!

Little Bit picked her first flower this spring and wanted me to put it in a jar. It had no stem, just the head of the flower. But it was so cute and she was so proud of her flower, so here it is...

a {hoot} of a baby gift...

This past weekend Little Bit and I traveled to a baby shower for my cousin's wife. She is such a cute little preggo! She is not finding out the gender of the baby so gifts had to be neutral. I chose to go with an owl theme...cause they work for girl or boy and who doesn't love owls?!

I decided to embellish a white onesie with a little owl. I just freehanded a pattern and cut out all the pieces, using brown and green fabric. I used Wonder Under to adhere all the pieces to the onesie. I then sewed green buttons on to enhance the eyes.

I also made a couple burp cloths. I found a cute owl print at JoAnns that looked pretty gender neutral and paired that with some fabric I had on hand. They coordinated great! Here are some girly burp cloths I made a while back....{tutorial link is in that post}.

Little Bit helped pick out 2 books with owls in them to complete our owl themed gift!

I also included a little zipper pouch filled with some {new mommy necessities}!...hand sanitizer, lip gloss, lotion, kleenex, shout wipes, ibuprofen & gum.

crocheted {little bit} scarf...

I have had a small skein of yarn that I bought for another project and didn't end up using very much. I knew it wouldn't be enough for a scarf for me so I decided to make one for Little Bit. The colors were perfect for her....it was a variegated yarn in light colors of pink, blue, green and purple!

I started off by doing a chain stitch. I did about 8-12...this number will vary depending on how wide you want your scarf. Then I did a double crochet and just kept going back and forth until I ran out of yarn! Luckily this ended up being a perfect size for Little Bit....and she just loves it!

Here is a great video and picture instructions for double crochet.

i meant what i said and i said what i meant...

Today is Theodor Geisel's birthday....better known as Dr. Seuss!!! So we did a few things to celebrate!

This morning on PBS we watched an episode of The Cat in the Hat, read a few of our favorite Dr. Seuss books {The Foot Book; One Fish, Two Fish; Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?....just to name a few!} and made a fun Cat in the Hat snack...

Friday at the library we are looking forward to a Dr. Seuss themed storytime and craft!

"Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You." ...Dr. Seuss.
