I have had a small skein of yarn that I bought for another project and didn't end up using very much. I knew it wouldn't be enough for a scarf for me so I decided to make one for Little Bit. The colors were perfect for her....it was a variegated yarn in light colors of pink, blue, green and purple! I started off by doing a chain stitch. I did about 8-12...this number will vary depending on how wide you want your scarf. Then I did a double crochet and just kept going back and forth until I ran out of yarn! Luckily this ended up being a perfect size for Little Bit....and she just loves it!
