{whooo's} been trick or treating?!

My little owl...that's who! Little Bit sure has been enjoying dressing up in her owl costume!

It was fun and super easy to put together. I found the hat first....at County Market of all places! Then I used this tutorial for the owl body {jacket!}. I paired that with brown pants and had the perfect little owl costume! It was so much fun putting it together....and seeing how much Little Bit loves it!

Here is a sampling of all the fun we've had the past 2 weekends! School party, fall festivals, yummy food, games, getting treats!, library storytime and craft,....even trick or treating from Abe and Mary Lincoln!

Tonight we are off for more tricks and treats! Hope you have a fun and safe Halloween!

spider web {wreath}...

So a few weeks ago I posted about a wreath I made for the front door....but it ended up looking too small so I used it inside instead. Therefore my front door was left wreathless...{don't think that's a word but sounds fun}! Little Bit has been talking about spiders at school and loves when I add Halloween/Fall decor to the house, so when I saw this wreath I decided to {copy} use it as my inspiration! ;)
I pretty much just did what she did. I used a grapevine wreath I already had and took it apart to get about half as much wreath. I picked up the spider web {with spider already attached!} at Dollar General for a buck. I attached that to the wreath with some floral wire. Then I wrapped it with ribbon, which I picked up at Michaels for $1.99. I even created the bow myself, just kind of wrapping and tucking and twisting until I got something I liked.

So....the whole thing only cost me about $3!

Here is a shot of the front door. I love my new welcome mat from Target. It goes great with the new teal door and spideriffic wreath!

a {hoot} of a treat bag...

Little Bit is having a Fall party at school this week and I signed up to take treat bags. I had lunch sacks already on hand so I decided to use those and jazz them up a bit!
You know how much I love owls....so of course I took this opportunity to turn the treat bags into owls! I started by cutting a point at the top of the sack. Then I folded it over and this created the owls head. Then I punched scallop circles out of patterned paper and layered a white circle on top creating the eyes. I then cut a triangle from some orange paper for the nose. To finish off the owl I cut a hill shape out of coordinating patterned paper using scalloped edge scissors.

Here is a glimpse at what I filled the bags with. I tried to keep it healthy and fun at the same time....knowing the kids will probably be filled with enough candy come this weekend. ;) So the bags included animal crackers, raisins, pumpkin straws, pencils, notebooks and glow sticks!

I did two different versions of the owls....pink and stripes for the girls, blue and circles for the boys!

Hope the party is a hoot! ;)

Friday got away from me but I still wanted to link up with Jeannette again over at Life Rearranged for her InstaFriday feature. So here is my {retro} week...
This past Saturday we went on the Pike County Color Drive and even though the colors weren't that great, the weather was awesome! We had good eats and found some fun bargains...mostly Little Bit found the bargains but I came away with this adorable owl cookie jar!!! I have been looking for one for a little while now and when I saw this one I felt like a kid at Christmas! ;)

I took Little Bit to the park for a fall photo shoot! There had just been a pumpkin carving event, so there were hay bales and pumpkins everywhere making for great photo opps!

Who doesn't love a good tea party?!

I walked in on Little Bit and Daddy reading before bed and they just looked so sweet...I had to capture it!

Tonight we are off to a Fall Festival at Little Bit's school....what events are you "fall"ing into this weekend?! ;)

fall mantle...

I could have fall decorations out all year. I just love the colors...oranges, browns, yellows...just makes me smile! So needless to say I was more than happy to break out the fall decor a few weeks ago and "autumnize" our living room...like that word, I just made it up! ;)

The only thing I had to buy to complete this mantle were the orange pumpkins in the one hurricane. I got them from the Dollar Store. Again I used some books to help add height to one of the larger pumpkins.

One hurricane is filled with pine cones and the other is filled with mini pumpkins I mentioned earlier and acorns {from our yard!}.

I bought this AUTUMN sign at Hobby Lobby for like 90% off at the end of last years fall season. It was meant to be a hanging sign but I just took off the wire at the top and it sits perfectly on the mantle!

This isn't part of the mantle but I just love this vignette on top of the bookshelf. I made the pumpkin art last year and paired that with a twine pumpkin, some twigs and berry springs in a turquoise jar, and of course....scrabble letters spelling out HARVEST!

I still have a few more ideas of things to add here and there....so you might see some more stuff pop up! ;)

{fingerprint} tree...

I ran across this idea of making a handprint tree and thought it was super cute! I decided right then and there that I was going to do this with Little Bit. Well the canvas I had on hand was a small 6x6 square size and I didn't think it would look right....so I opted for plan B....

I started with this canvas I picked up from the Dollar Store. I had a few things in mind to do with it but hadn't gotten around to any of them yet! So it was fair game for this project! ;)

Next I gave it quite a few coats of ivory paint. You could still faintly see the original background, so I cut a piece of tan cardstock and taped in behind the canvas to help conceal the image.

I then freehanded a tree with brown paint and then Little Bit and I got our fingers messy! We used green, burgundy, orange and yellow to create leaves on the tree. {Of course I didn't get a picture of this because my hands were a little preoccupied!...sorry}

Here is our finished tree! I think it turned out just darling!!! I still need to add the date down in the corner like the on the inspiration piece. I'll probably just use a black sharpie to do so.

Loving having this one of a kind art displayed in our living room!

fall wreath...

I decided that I wanted to make a new fall wreath for the front door. I had a wreath on hand so all I needed were some leaves. I picked up some leaf garland at the Dollar Store and got creating...{You can't beat a project for $1 can you?!}

Really it was super easy....I just cut the garland in about 3 pieces so I could tuck it into the wreath as I wrapped it around. I did secure it in a few places with some floral wire. Then I added some fallish ribbon and attempted to hang it on the front door.

I said attempted because once I hung it up it just felt too small. So it found a new home hanging from the entryway shelf...

Now to figure out the front door....I've seen lots of cute ideas on Pinterest, or I could just use the one from last year?! We shall see...

{foto} friday...

Well as you saw from some previous posts we were gearing up for a trip to Florida/Disney! We just got back Wednesday and after being gone for 9 nights I have been playing catch up with laundry and just trying to remember what normal life is like!

I have been enjoying linking up with Jeannette each week over at Life Rearranged for her InstaFriday feature. So for this weeks post I thought I'd share some of my {retro} vacation week...

Little Bit's first time flying...she so loved it! Most of the trip she just looked out the window!

Some yummy seafood {from the Hungry Heron} during our time on the beach!

I just love pretzels! So needless to say, while we were at Disney I had a few. ;) The ones from Germany in Epcot are super yummy but I thought these Mickey head ones at Magic Kingdom were just as good....plus they are cuter!!!

View from under the Epcot ball!

We found this little Minnie while on our trip. She kept Little Bit occupied several times during wait times. I think she was super excited to be flying home with us! ;D

I'll share more Disney pics soon....
